Posted by kp5308 on Sat Feb 20 21:49:55 2021 It may be nasty but road freights will get assembled: Cars will get picked up and set out by the peddler freight:  Power will get shuffled:  Locals will leave yards to serve customers:  While some will just sit and wait it out:    Others will be on the main line doin' 60 like it is summertime:  And still others (like me) will be out there enjoying and photographing the show:  So bundle up, come on out and join us sometime! |

Having worked as the Tower Director at Croton-Harmon (HM) during the brutal winter of 1978-79 I can attest to how hard it can be. Amtrak No 48 from Chicago was supposed to arrive at 1 PM. It usually didn't show up until 3 or 4 in the morning. The train was so covered in snow that it looked like an iceberg on wheels. The yard crew had to break out the sledge hammer to break up the ice on the couplers so we could change the power. Larry, RedbirdR33 |
