Car R-32 3669 was damaged beyond repair. The BMT M/M were quite surprised at the peppiness of their trains with the IND’s 600V as opposed to the BMT’s 550V and a few of them missed some stations until they got used to it. Although it unfortunately never happened, I would have loved to see how the Multis would have operated on full voltage. |

Not that.The Roosevelt Ave. wreck was R16 #6304 vs. an R40 modified car #4501(post renumbering) which was eventually repaired and returned to service. The R40 slant (and I do mean slant) pictured is #4200 was wrecked in 1971 at one of the Rockaway Line Bridges. Its' mate was retired as well. All this info courtesy of Dave. P's site. Funny think, I don't remember that Rockaway incident at all. I looks like it hit an R10, LOL! Anybody have further information on that incident? |

It was intended to paint the R-32s, 38s and even the slant 40s, with a broad blue stripe like the 40Ms and 42s so the doors were probably painted silver in preparation for that. Unfortunately the graffiti problem put an end to that. |

Did this accident occur in the tunnel (like Malborne Street) or at its current location (which appears to be looking north towards Franklin Ave.?) It also looks like the switch is in the middle of the second car which remained completely on the left track. So it was just the front truck that split the switch. After that derailment they basically shut down the south side of Prospect Park for the Shuttle. So actually it had nothing to do with the sharp "S" curve into the station. |

The front truck took the switch as it should and the rest did not. The south side had been shut down since the 60s at that point after they stopped turning the shuttle on the express track south of Prospect Park on summer Sundays (a remnant of the Franklin-Nassau expresses). The tail end of the first car continued to the S-curve and hit the wall that the Malbone wreck hit, but it wasn't the S-curve that caused this accident. |
