The old Culver depot, now Trump Village, in Coney Island would have been a good site, also. Guess that O'Malley wasn't interested in the Coney Island area, either.

IIRC, O'Malley was interested in a site in Red Hook. Plenty of vacant land there for parking and the nearby BQE & mass transit for those loyal to "Dem Bums".
Again, Moses said no, citing future housing & commercial outlets proposed for the area.

It usually does, but that is a relatively recent phenomenon. It wasn't done in the early days of D and CC express/local service, I don't think.

Stengel retired after fracturing his hip in a fall at Toots Shor's and Wes Westrum finished out the 1965 season. Things started to look up in 1966 when the Mets finished ninth with a 66-95 record, but in '67 they finished last again at 61-101. Tom Seaver came up that season and was named Rookie of the Year.

From 1956 to 1963, I believe. They stayed at Yankee Stadium until the 1973 baseball season ended, then played at Yale Bowl through 1974 and at Shea Stadium in 1975.

Football Giants. That sounds about right. I know my parents took some train in the steaming heat to see a pre season game at the Yale Bowl in 1974.

The only time I rode a Concourse Express it didn't seem particularly fast. Add in the stop at Yankee Stadium and I doubt it cut more than a half a minute off the run time.

We used to play Yale every year when I was at UConn, and we'd always make the trip down to New Haven to play at the game. The only time that place ever sells out is when Harvard comes to town; I remember our drum major saying there would be 60,000 people to watch us and I was thinking, oh, please. We'd be lucky if 20,000 showed up.

I still kick myself for giving away my Nolan Ryan rookie card, plus all of my other baseball cards, to my next door neighbor when we moved to Connecticut. The only card I kept was a 1968 Tom Seaver, which I still have.

It's not the fastest express run by any means. I think its main purpose was to better serve those passengers living further north in the Bronx.

When you think about it, the only true express run on the Concourse was between 145 and Tremont. The exp did bypass 182/183 St but after that Fordham and Kingsbridge were both exp stops so there was no time saving at all. In fact at the end of the AM rush N/B Ds operating on the lcl tk would Xover to the exp tk at Fordham and operate straight iron into Bed Pk while CCs would remain on the lcl tk so they could straight iron into the lcl tk which is the middle tk at Bedford Pk.

I went to Lehman for a year but remember them doing that. It doesn't mean they didn't though. And since Lehman was always a reverse commute I didn't ever ride the express except that one time there was a concert on campus in the evening.

Also, bear in mind that the Concourse line was to have been extended, east of 205th St, under Burke Ave. Instead, the City bought the NYW&B's right-of-way, which became the present Dyre Ave line.

You would have had to be there at exactly the right time. They could only use the exp N/B after the last S/B exp cleared Fordham and only till the last N/B CC arrived Bedford.

Even with the purchase of the Dyre Av Line, plans existed that called for it to be connected to the Concourse Line as a substitute for a brand new line.
