Posted by heypaul on Thu Aug 13 22:26:07 2020

Are they all stored in one yard?

Many are at Concourse, IIRC.

Wonder if they will fix them before the R211's come along, and where will they put all these trains. It is not like they are scrapping R32 and R42 just yet.

ENY, Concourse and CI, they could be stored at other yards but the three I mentioned I actually seen R179s stored there.

38th St Yd. was named as a yard to store MUs for 2nd Ave. service; IIRC from the last time i looked at the yard, you can put at least 12 full length trains up there.

I'm sure the 179s will be back in service long before the 211s enter service. The A needs them since Pikin will be short 13 trains once full F service is restored.

They should store them at Bombardier's plant until Bombardier gets them right, or gives the MTA their money back...

Then again, there's really nothing left of bum bar dee air. Other than the bizjet division. Which may or may not keep them going. But the Canadian government will (once again) bail them out, so it's not a problem

Have they figured out the problem with the R179s, and can it be reminded? Thanks, in advance.

Why is the MTA spending money on a panel to figure out Bombardier's problems? It's up to the contracor to fix them, not the customer...

Because you want to protect yourself from the possibility that 1. your specs are part of or cause the problem, or 2. your inspection folks should have caught the problem during any of the many stages of inspection and testing that occur before a car goes into service

This NBC report talks about the problems with the cars and the reason for convening a panel.

A few questions come in. Since the R-142s were built by the same manufacturer and AFAIK have n problems and the rest of the specs of the R-179s should be virtually identical toe the R-160s, I can’t see where there should be any propblem with the specs.

We are just guessing. You are applying an assumption of logic to the MTA that I'm not willing to make.
