There's an LIRR M-3 out and about today

Posted by Joe V on Thu Aug 13 10:44:53 2020

Currently train 2831, 10:36am from Far Rockaway, 8 cars, lead cars 9849-50. How it cycles between there and the Hempstead Branch, I don't know.

When #2831's equipment gets to Atlantic Terminal, it will cycle eastward as a Hempstead Branch train. Most likely #718 at 12:05 PM or #750 at 1:05 PM.

At least some riders can ride in relative comfort rather than on the newer equipment with microscopic torture seats.

I think all LIRR seats are fine by me. NJT seats, all of them, I hate for varying reasons, but all of them have a seat cushion that is too short.

It later crapped out in Cedarhurst as #2850 with some kind of master controller failure. Sitting out of service for months didn't do them good.

I actually saw a set on the mainline on Sunday, crossing the LIE going eastbound.
