Haven't you seen the movie Beat Street?

Chasing the elusive white car is part of the later storyline. There is a scene at Fresh Pond Yard where Ramo sees it from a rooftop and begins scheming.

It looks like they position the train so that it's "off the juice" not touching the third rail. Or they cut power for the scene which is most likely.

We should make a list (lol) of all the films that R-27/30s have appeared in

Money Train
Beat Street
Die Hard with a vengeance (R30s on the 3!!)

Others?

Once when I was still in Southern California, I was driving by the railroad tracks just north of Union Station and saw a set of R-30s parked on one. Obviously had been used in a movie. Of course, I didn't have a camera with me, and by the time I could get back there, they were gone 😕 That's why I always carry a camera with me these days (or failing that, the phone).

How about the movie “Short Walk to Daylight” involving passengers stuck in what was supposed to be the Joralemon St Tube on a 4 train during an earthquake? While the train was properly signed up as a 4, what was used was a train of the museum R-1/9s which certainly wouldn't have fit on the IRT.

Even more wrong would be a few seconds shot from an episode of 12 O'Clock High. Set in London during WW2. A reporter is pushed into an oncoming train. It's an R1/9 signed "AA".

And along the same line (no pun intended), in "Pay or Die" Ernest Borgnine is at the Spring St. station on the First Subway, probably around 1905 or so*. Someone from the organied crime gang pushes him onto the tracks as the train approaches. He falls forward, film cuts to a second or so shot of a moving R1/9 also signed "AA".

*movie set in the early 20th century in Little Italy, Borgnine was a cop going after the "Black hand" gang.

Or sixteen if you count each door leaf as a separate door. Or twenty if you count the cab doors and doors at each end of the car.

Yes on SNF. Tony (John Travolta) rode on a train of 27/30s on the RR going to Manhattan to find Stephanie after Bobby died in a fall off the Verrazano. Other R-27/30s were seen, as well as an R-46 (N layup?)

I did not see Death Wish, so I don't know. From stills I saw, I thought it was IRT equipment, but I could be mistaken.

Funny thing, I just showed my fiance' that movie. I wondered what they did with that white R27 after the film. I guess left it painted white?

Another funny thing in that movie is how they freak out about white trains yet there are several scenes filmed near the IRT Els in the Bronx and you see trains of white IRT cars going overhead and Ramo says nothing. Plot holes.

I believe today they are forlorn in a junk yard in the American southwest some place. I also read somewhere that the museum that has some PE interurbans with H2 couplers got some from these R30's.

Two cars were done for the movie “Beat Street”. After filming, I saw one of these cars on an M train laid up at Sheepshead Bay on the Ave Z overpass one weekend. Matter of time before the regular graffiti crews got to it.
