Posted by Bill Newkirk on Sun Aug 9 16:29:27 2020 All photos - Aug. 9, 2020.......Merillon Ave - View east from temporary platform Merillon Ave - Detailed view of eastbound platform and canopy Merillon Ave - View east of new westbound platform Merillon Ave - View west of temporary platform and new eastbound platform canopy New Hyde Park - View east of new platforms, This grade crossing will be eliminated New Hyde Park - View west of temporary platforms New Hyde Park - View west, Ronkonkoma train not stopping New Hyde Park Rd underpass paved and ready for striping. This used to be a grade crossing not long ago. The LIRR had many one lane bridges long ago.The one lane bridge at Tannersville Pond Rd is part of the third track project. I'm not sure if this will be widened or not. The Covert Ave crossing was eliminated and train horns no longer sound Thanks for viewing and your comments in advance

Those crossings which have been eliminated were a big traffic bottleneck during rush hours.

We don't want to see flooding at these new locations.

If they aren't serviced regularly, though, they will indeed break and flooding is unavoidable.

I don't know if the 3rd rail power goes out when area commercial power does, but maybe a backup system should have sumps with local DC-AC generator take power from it.

It's sure a lot safer than having to cross the tracks at grade level where trains can be going as fast as 70 mph. These crossings should have been removed long ago.

I think this may be a result of using imagebox to host the images. Previously I was using postimg to host pictures, but postimg had a domain issue and now all old images do not display. (Apparently postimg lost the ability to the domain postimg.com and are now using postimg.cc therefore all old urls for images need to have the ".org" replaced with ".cc" in order for them to display again, so I plan on spending some time updating my old posts to get the images working again.) Can anyone recommend a reliable free image hosting solution for posts? More on topic, below are the full size images:

The question then becomes -- "to where?". Are there sumps or something else that can receive the water near those crossings?
