A ceremony was held at West 125th Street and Seventh Avenue in front of Blumstein’s Department Store. The final run was made by lightweight car 101. Several replacement buses were on display as well as a jury rigged horsecar. This was not the complete end of streetcar service in Manhattan. Several of the Bronx lines would continue to cross the Harlem River into northern Manhattan until August 1948 and the Queensborough Bridge Railway would run until 1957. The M-102 bus line ran along 125th Street between the Hudson River and 3rd Avenue. This route was already well served by the Bx-29 buses and it didn’t last very long. According to the X-Astorian the M-102 was discontinued two days later. The M-102 designation did return on July 1, 1974 replacing the M-101 A.
