ATTN: MTA Employees |
|
Posted by piyer on Thu Apr 9 15:59:46 2020 Forwarding this over here from Railfan & Railroad's Facebook page (I'm just a reader, I don't work for them):Railfan & Railroad is working on a story for the next issue about how COVID-19 is impacting the rail industry and we want to hear from railroaders on the front lines about what they're seeing. Have a story to share? Drop Associate Editor Justin Franz a note at justin@railfan.com and stay safe out there. https://www.facebook.com/railfanmag |

Employees might be limited by just what info they can give to the press but they are not completely gagged. Complete restriction would be unconstitutional. |

Complete restriction is not unconstitutional when you're on the clock. We (at MNR) were told to refer all questions to the press office or commuter relations...or else. |

True Story: A Supt in RTO of duty at W4 St.after a fire knocked out signals. Reporter for NY Times on platform with Supt. X commented on the rats he saw. Supt. X responded that there were so many, the TA was going to issue them vests. That comment appeared in the story, attributed. That Supt. was transferred and never saw another promotion. |

This is not a good idea for a story as some responses have already indicated. Privacy issues, and I would not want an employee of any agency (public or private) to jeopardize his/her position, even inadvertently. |
