B&W photo of CNJ Forked River station

Posted by Olog-hai on Tue Apr 7 11:49:21 2020

This was on the Barnegat Branch. Caption indicates the build date.

(Not even worth it to imagine NJT MLVs serving a reconstituted branch, is it, even with the area's traffic problems in pre-crisis days.)

Don't know. The line is part of the Barnegat Branch Rail Trail these days.

Locals will scoff if you pronounce the name to rhyme with "corked." It is always Fork-id.

That's true.

People in Elizabeth NJ back in the day had summer places down that area and we always got an earful of "Fork-id".

No it's not, the CNJ central branch is probably the most ready expansion project NJT could do. They even own the track to Lakehurst, IIRC.

Route 9 is a tremendous headache traffic-wise. Turning the Barnegat Branch into a rail trail is a real travesty. Seems like Conjob was created to push rail-trailing.
