PHOTOS: 4-6-20

Posted by kp5308 on Tue Apr 7 15:47:40 2020

Yesterday I was directed to work from home. I had some appointments with local customers so the boss let me loose so I didn't need to cancel. I made my schedule & did some phone calls from the car. Along the way I made some "other stops":
CP WEST LAUREL for H48:

Front St. overpass in Reading PA for more empty oil cans heading for storage on the Reading and Northern. Word has it RBMN will be storing 20 to 25 empty trains:

The Dyer's Quarry siding at Birdsboro had 3 GEs including gray and blue #4000 on the other end of the consist:

A stop to do some paperwork at North Reading where a freshly repainted open air car has taken the place of the F7B. Ex-Jersey Central 70' commuter car #1300 was acquired from NJT in 1984 by George Hart for his Rail Tours Inc. operation out of Jim Thorpe PA. IIRC what was left of the RTI inventory was purchased by the RBMN/Lehigh Gorge Scenic in 2005. It was repainted from LGSR blue for the upcoming F unit trip which has been rescheduled for the first Saturday in August. Another trip to Pittston is added for September 5th:

SD40-2s #3050 & 3052 sit at track level:

At Hamburg the lead into Port Clinton is getting extended with 2 ex-Reading signals already installed:

The power from the H48 move returning light to Allentown is shot from a new photo location along West Wessner Rd:

After my last visit I returned to North Reading to photograph another freshly repainted RBMN passenger car properly sunlit. Built in 1929 and named Night Trail (Pullman lot #6304, Plan #3980B) with 14 single bedrooms-sold to the New Haven and numbered 758 (1948) sold to Jack Ferris-Private RR Cars, Inc. same # (1955) sold to Al Coleman (number & date unknown) sold to RBMN #2 and initially named Lehigh Gorge (1998). Renamed Hickory Run (date unknown):

Painted last year was baggage-generator car #1250, an ex-New York Central car. It was acquired during the Blue Mountain and Reading days in the 1980s. I found little information on the car's history:

The usual MP15DC pair return light after moving one of those empty tank trains to the old BM&R:

Tanks for looking :o)

Is PA under a shelter-in-place order?

You got me with the thread title; for a second there, I imagined a steam locomotive with a leading four-wheel truck, six driving wheels and a twenty-wheel truck under the firebox 🚂 🚂 🚂

Got to see that station one day. Lots of old stations were configured that way in the past, with one of the tracks paved over to allow access to the track for the other direction.

I don't know why it is being called that (except for effect). If we practice "social distancing" and don't do stupid stuff like have a Corona party or something like that it isn't really enforced. Hell, the Governor's cabinetmaking business is open...that tells you all you need to know! In my book EVERY business is essential anyway.

Got to see that station one day.
The structure is modeled after a PRR tower, with bathrooms on the bottom level and an office on the top. No dispatching is done from that location. It is quite evident that Andy Muller is a railfan. Old Skool lit switchstands & vintage signage is everywhere.
