The Ronkonkoma line is a busy line in normal times. These are not normal times.Overall LIRR ridership is down somewhere in the neighborhood of 80% (I've seen two figures in recent days, one around 66% and another around 90%). The LIRR has had about a week now to see what ridership looks like. The 30 minute service in the very early morning makes sense, as the Ronkonkoma branch always had a lot of construction workers (who tend to start and finish early) and many construction projects are not stopping. Offices around Manhattan, on the other hand, are largely empty. These are the jobs that typically are mid-to-late rush hour. |

There are no passengers at Penn. A few skells and misrouted pigeons. You could do hourly service with 6 car consists right now. |

Agreed, the real focus should be the Construction trains and the hospital shift changes. Every once in a while I get a random Brooklyn train with 100 riders (still mostly favoring the front of the train despite social distancing). |
