I didn't know that either about the backlit ads. No long door windows, so could not be R38, and they never had dark blue doors.

R-38s were 3950-4149. And no, the 33s did not have backlit ads, nor did any of the mainline IRT SMEEs pre-R-62. 38s did have them, as well as the last 100 R-32s (3800-3949).

Perhaps, one of the TA's experiments(backlit ads)? It would sorta make sense and maybe that led to them spec'ing the 150 R-32s with those lights???

Higher rates of smoking among males is the likely cause, though Blood type A has been much harder hit in proportion than blood type O. (I don't know about + and -). I don't know how those blood types are distributed though to correlate any causality.

BMT cars would only have either to windows or 1 window 1 route sign . Definitely not in our 27

And as i walked through the train I saw various combinations of lighting. The recessed lights in the photo as shown, and then none at all. After that one Saturday, I never saw those cars again, unless they were sent to the #6 Pelham, along with R17's, a train line that I did not frequent in the 60's.
