MN wanted to completely rip up Tk 1 in its entirety & go with 3 tracks.. But NYS DOT got wind of this & said in effect, "Not So Fast". Bottom line: Tk 1 stayed in service. |

He did say this:Cuomo wants to provide new, frequent, direct LIRR service on the Port Washington Branch between Penn Station and Mets Willets Point Station. This is to support his $2 billion LaGuardia Air Train. Additional service from Grand Central Terminal to Mets Willets Point station may also begin, once LIRR East Side Access to Grand Central Terminal is completed. The best thing I could see happening here: 1. Reduce the off-peak fare on the PW branch to CityTicket fare. 2. Run combined 4 TPH off peak / weekend locals between Grand Central / NYP and Great Neck. Optionally, do skip-stop for the less used stations (Murray Hill, Broadway, Auburndale). 3. Beyond Great Neck, run 2 TPH expresses NYP-Port Washington off peak, stopping at Woodside, Willets Pt, Main St, then Great Neck, all stops to PW. Coordinate a transfer to Grand Central at Woodside. |
