Ottawa OC-Transpo O-Train Lines 1 and 2

Posted by GojiMet86 on Thu Jan 16 00:34:55 2020

Ottaw's O-Train system has two lines. Line 1 Confederation is the newest line in the system and has 34 Alstom Citadis Spirit LRVs, with more on the way for expansion. Line 2 Trillium is the original line, running 6 diesel DMU Alstom Coradia LINT 41 (replacing the older Bombardier Talent DMU).

Right now, the new Line 1 has periodic problems, to the point where 20 buses have been alloted as back-up.

How can they have a rail system where everybody is so polite?

I was there about 3 years ago and don't remember there being a rail system there, is it newer than that? I drove out to the airport from downtown and I recall it would be easy to extend it from where it ends. Just like with LGA!

We kept saying to each other "what a cute little town" and then we had to remind ourselves that this is a world capital. Of course we were there in June and it was warm, you don't want to go there in January.

I hope the Sussexes get used to it.

Now do Montreal. Different worlds. But Toronto is better. :)

Montreal and Toronto are great cities too, but Ottawa is the epitome of civility and charm...in the summer, and with the class and diversity of a national capitol. So glad to see they have begun to build rail transit!

Line 1 Confederation is the newest line … Line 2 Trillium is the original line

Why do they number them backwards?

I remember the O-Train when it opened before the Southern New Jersey Light Rail Transit River LINE, and all the comparisons thereof. Haven't looked up whether or not that line's diesel prime movers were replaced, but this article from today (at time of writing) is about delays due to "mechanical issue(s)" . . .

PS. Missed the part earlier about the BBD Talent cars being replaced. They lasted just 14 years. And the article I posted in my other post seems to indicate problems with the four-year-old Alstom Coradia LINT (lol) cars (naming something after waste that comes from a clothes dryer should have been ringing alarm bells).

The original Talent units used on the line are somewhere hidden on BBD's property. OC Transpo purchased Coradia LINT units as a replacement, and will augment their fleet with Stadler FLIRTS in the future.

Their short lives just confirm to me that they're . . .
