Good for him. And I'm glad he did in an R-46.
Next he should ride on the shopper's special this Sunday to see what it's really like!

Byford himself on Thursday noted that subway riders have statistically a “one-in-a-million” chance of being a victim of a serious crime in the subway system.

“The stats clearly show that the subway is safe. It’s remarkably safe,” Byford said.

That stat equals almost six serious crimes a day on the subway.

That is way too many.

Yes more officers are needed, and yes they have to be trained and paid, but...Whose budget do we take the money from?

Let the city and not the MTA foot the bill. These asshats are loose in the city if they are not in the subway. Big deal if they are arrested on the Subway or up on the street.

I think that fines and jail time should be doubled in the subway.

He does not like old equipment, When in Toronto, he was quite ruthless in scrapping not so old H5 and H6 cars.

They didn't even upgrade their work fleet of older H class cars, like PATH did with the PA4's.

According to any IRT old timer I spoke to all Hi-Vs with mechanical non MUDC doors were called battleships.

I'd thought, previously, that only the Hedleys were called "Battleships," so, thank you for correcting me with this information.

It seems there are several opinions as to what the term “battleship” meant. Some sources claim that it was only the deck roofers that were properly to be called battleships, but When I was in high school, I hung out with a number of old time IRT crews one of which was the #1 senior IRT M/M and they always referred to any Hi-V with manual doors by the term battleship which included the manual door Gibbs, deck roofers (which were all manual) and manual door Hedleys. The only group of Hi-Vs that never got MUDC at all were the deck roofers. A number of Gibbs cars and most of the Hedleys received MUDC as a labor saving measure in the late 1930s.

Now that’s being a REAL C/R. As I said in another post, all that would be needed is a train of battleship Hi-Vs for him to work or maybe have him work the gate cars.

I think back to David Gunn riding to work in my cab on his way to work or visiting a tower and demanding air conditioners for them. Most managers hold employees in contempt nowadays

well, there are gate cars up at Branford; he could work one of those on a hot July or August day with (hopefully) continuous large groups of museum visitors taking trips on it the entire day.

My neighbor works for the MTA at their offices at #2 Broadway. According to him, the gap between upper level management and the lower echelons is the size of the Grand Canyon. He also said that Byford's cute pic playing conductor was a publicity stunt- nothing more! But, most of you already know this!!!

nowadays??? The adversarial attitudes--both directions--have been around for decades if not centuries. I don't think many plantation owners, be they in the US, or anywhere else, ever had any respect for the peasants, serfs, slaves,

A few years back, I was told by a Workmans' Comp. attorney who had a number of MTA cases that the TA does not treat their people well.
Has anyone here had experiences otherwise?
