That tower has an interesting history. The original interlocking machine was made by Federal Switch and Signal like the original machines at Essex and Chambers Sts. The first of the Federals to go was Essex St which was replaced by a GRS. None of the BMT Tw/M I spoke to recall the Federal but only the GRS. The next to go was 168 St which according to the Tw/M I spoke to there was originally at Gold St tower which was closed circa 1960 when the Dekalb/Gold St interlocking complex was realigned. The Federal machine at Chambers St lasted until the entire interlocking was replaced by the one controlled from the new Essex St master tower.

You gotta remember, most 27/30 were swapped out to the M.
Basically, the M took over the QJ rolling stock, and the J received All of the M line cars.
So, THAT particular Saturday, when I hung out with my father At Work..All I saw, and rode That day was R7/9 trains that He was assigned.

As for the tower visit,it wasn't that long.
Just in and out to use the bathroom.
No big deal.

to me with my lack of inside knowledge it seems that the powers that be have money for the things that they want and excuses for everything else. Such an expansion would benefit many people and lessen the congestion on the roads and streets, but those in charge see only what benefits their handlers and no much else. I guess when my grandsons ( ages 6 and 2 ) are elderly then somebody in charge will ' look into building more lines '.

Yes.
There were several plans to extend the line further east, with the one being Queens Village, and the last being Hollis next to the LIRR Hollis Station.
Merrick Blvd was the Only station on the extension to be approved, yet never built.
It would have at least provided a much better terminal for J trains, since Parsons wasn't supposed to be in the first place.

Maybe one day, with some good leadership, we can actually get that one-station extension done. I mean, aren't there already working tail tracks beyond Parsons/Archer? So all they'd really have to is excavate a station, and MAYBE extend the tunnel a little?

Such a new station should be built simply, like a BMT Broadway station, not like Parsons/Archer or on the SAS.

I mean, I know this is fantasy. But in an even slightly better world, it would be simple enough.

Yeah,a shallow stop Can be built at Archer and Merrick Blvd.
However, anything can be better than a terminal that cuts service in half, from 24 to 12 tph.

Yeah, look no further than Hudson Yards for the prime example of One 2.75 billion dollar one stop rail extension.

However, Merrick Blvd doesn't have to be the size of Jamaica Center,or anything like the Second Ave subway stations.
It can be a very modest two track one island platform.
Small Mezz at each end or a centralized Mezz over the middle of the station,ADA standards.

With tail tracks for storage/further extension east...of course.

the line should be extended all the way down Merrick to and even past Springfield Blvd. - there are numerous bus lines on Merrick alone. A four track subway is in order for that street. Hillside Ave. should have the F line extended from 179th to Little Neck Parkway as was planned in the Second System. My grandsons will be elderly when and if those projects are done.
