Kevin: I can tell you that it is a fact even though I can't explain it. I worked for Conrail and Metro-North for over 30 years. It seems that every year when the first hard frost came the signal system went haywire for a few hours until the sun warmed things up. My friends in the signal and track departments noticed this as well. Usually by the second or third day of cold weather every thing settles down to a dull roar. Larry, RedbirdR33 |

Could be the switch itself or could be the signals protecting the switch. The diagnosis is not known until the signal maintainers ( who also repair switches) troubleshoot at the scene. |
