New Orleans streetcars OOS

Posted by Dave on Thu Nov 7 19:12:11 2019

Between construction that has canceled service on the Riverfront line, and part of the Canal Street line OOS due to the Hard Rock hotel collpase, several streetcars are not in service. I found four of them lined up on Canal Street. There was an operator moving one of them back and forth on a short strip of track; when I asked why, she explained it was to keep the moving parts from operable condition. She later operated the other three cars as well.

Our long layover hotel is the Sheraton a few blocks northwest of that location on Canal. There is a colorful piano once used and signed by Billy Joel in the lobby. PJs is a small but really nice coffee shop another block or two beyond the Sheraton.

I have been known to delay Push at KMSY in order to get a bag of those beignets which means fried dough and powdered sugar. Once airborne, the dispatchers inquired over ASCARS as to why we were late departing and I told them the truth that I was standing on line waiting for the beignets to be ready.

I meant ACARS which means Aircrew Communications and Reporting System or something like that. The pilots use that thing as SOP I think.
