LIRR Kawasaki M9

Posted by GojiMet86 on Thu Sep 12 19:26:06 2019

The Kawasaki M9 made its first revenue run on 9/11/19. It started the day as the 1621 out of Huntington to Hunterspoint Avenue. After its run was done, it headed to Long Island City and stayed there for about an hour, waiting as the diesel westbounds made their runs. 423, the former DM30AC 507 converted into a DE30AC, made an appearance.

I'm surprised that they didn't put 9001 at the west end for the inaugural revenue run.

Midget anorectic quadruple amputees will appreciate that the seats are designed specifically for them.

Thank you. Good pics of a nice-looking train. I hope the M9s give many years of good service.

On another note, I didn't previously know that there were still any electrified tracks at LIC.

Last time I was there there was one, all the way at the south end of the yard. It has been there as long as I can remember, And I can remember steam engines in that yard.

MMMMmmmmm.... What would the NIMBYs say about steam engines tying up there all day.

Oh My!

Electrics can hang out there; some Hunterspoint Avenue service is electric.

In a few weeks half of the tracks at LIC will be electrified. They're going to use that space for layovers from GCT.

While like the idea of NYS colors on the rolling stock, I think a blue stripe bordered by the gold (yellow) beneath the window line where the solid blue stripe was on the M-1s through M-3s would look better. Another comment pseudo related to the M-9s, since the M-9s have the more or less traditional subway style pantograph gates, why weren't those installed on the NYCT’s NTTs since the end excess problem with them on the 75 footers does not exist?

The layups for GCT service will be on the former LIRR Freight Yard on the other side of Amtrak's Sunnyside Yard and Arch Street which it connects.

To get to LIC Yard from Grand Central would require the train to go into Harold and do a reverse move somewhere to get to the tracks that lead to Hunters Point and the LIC yard. Not saying it is isn't possible but how many times are they going to want to do that?

Yes, I knew that there were once a FEW electrified tracks at LIC. I didn't know they still existed, and others on here are saying that the number will actually be increased.

It never converted over to E-mode properly, it always faulted out so the Electric components were removed and it was made into a DE.
