Posted by IRTRedbirdR33 on Mon Jul 22 05:07:05 2019 Tuscarora Almanac - July 22, 1965 - The Book of First Runs Flushing, Queens, New York New York City Transit Authority IRT and BMT Divisions Today is Rapid Transit Day at the New York World's Fair. IRT Low-V Motors; 5286, 5290, 5443, 5466 and 5483 made a special run to the Fair carrying revenue passengers from Queensboro Plaza. The cars had been refurbished and painted dark green with gold striping. A three car train of Standards, 2390-1-2, made a special run with invited guests from Coney Island to Queensboro Plaza where passengers could transfer to Q-Type 1622 A,B,C. The Standards were freshly painted with a coat of BMT Brown while the Q-Type was painted in the 1938 blue and orange livery. Blue and orange are the colors of the city flag and also the official color of the World's Fair. The Lo-V and the Q later sat side by side in the Corona Yard where they were visible form the ramp leading to the fair. These cars went on to form the nucleus of the current transit museum fleet. The BMT cars actually remained in regular passenger service until the last of the BMT steels were removed from service and Myrtle shut down in 1969. during my time with the TA I actually had the good fortune to operate both the steel and the Q as both a C/R and a M/M. |

We took the Circle Line around Manhattan on that very same day, then changed to an R-32 TT on the way back to Brooklyn. My father wanted to visit his elderly cousin. |
