M-9 set spotted yet again |
|
Posted by Andrew Saucci on Mon Jun 24 18:04:45 2019 Just passed us after stopping briefly on the express track heading for Jamaica while our M-3 was stopped at Forest Hills. Side display on one car read "Car 9 of 14." Looked like some interesting stuff going on inside but it didn't linger long enough for me to garner any details. |

It stopped outside of Jamaica, so as we crawled past I was able to see what looked like the expected dead weights to simulate passengers, many of the seats covered in white or full of stuff, and lots of exposed wiring (no doubt for testing instrumentation). Most of the interesting stuff was toward the front, just as real passengers tend to bunch up front leaving Penn Station. |

The M7 have a lot of bells and whistles and their pretty good MDBF wise, M7's ride like crap but good MDBF though. |

"... dead weights to simulate passengers,"I remember in the mid 80s Metro North filling the seats of newly delivered Bomb Shoreliners with sandbags to simulate a full passenger load. Must be SOP with testing new passenger equiptment |

The M9 issues is probably a lot of techno babble the general public wouldn't understand I assume. I read somewhere they have "software issues" but nothing more specific than that. |

I believe issues is with doors , so it would be a sub-vendor responsible, but no matter what, if a fault occurs during the required mileage, the counter goes back to zero and all start again. no exceptions. |

If an individual car has a door motor problem, do all 14 cars get their clock turned back to zero ?The huge, heavy doors have got be an issue. The C-3 doors always had problems. The R32's as delivered had a lighter-weight fabricated door, the interior was made of some sort of honey-combed fiberglass material, or at least that was what someone once said here. |
