Summer begins at 11:54 AM today. Just thought I would mention it.

Damn, I missed my flight to Iceland to see the Midnight sun! Again.
Back to the Bucket list.

Only there’s not much to enjoy about it considering the weather today.

I don’t think I’ve seen the sun at all this week.

I have. Peeking through the clouds from time to time. Had to drive facing it yesterday. Wasn't much of a big deal but other drivers don't own sunglasses apparently.

I have those "old fart"wrap around sunglasses, they do a so-so job facing the sun. So it's sun visor down and help from that black matrix in the center of your windshield, which acts as third sun visor, I found out.

Summertime...and the livin is easy, especially when you're retired!
BTW...today is the longest day of the year. Where we live in the western part of the eastern time zone, sunset in these parts tonite is 8:55 DST, which means traces of saved daylight will be around until about 9:45 PM. And it finally stopped raining!!

Jasper, AB, in the summertime is crazy. Far north and far west in the time zone. I don't think that anytime I've been there that I've managed to stay up until darkness fell.

I'm one of them. Transition lenses don't work through auto glass, and while Walmart offers glasses with a handy magnetic sunglass overlay, my insurance doesn't work there, only at places which do not have cheap but useful imported glasses frames...

I have transition lenses in my regular glasses, which don't do well while driving because of the tinted car windshield, like Henry said. The wrap around sun glasses help quite a lot with the sun, I bought them for ,IIRC, $10.00 at CVS.

I feel like a dumbass for forgetting that there are issues with getting sunglasses if you have prescription glasses.

It's over at Omar's shop being repaired. Tell me this though. How did you guys ever tell time before they invented the sundial.

I have lift-over wrap-around sunglasses. There are about $20.
Clip-n/flip up are getting hard to find, the ribber gaskets fall off easily, then they scratch the lenses.

I have a clip on thing. It barely holds and randomly falls off, not good to have while driving.

There was a $130 frame available at Walmart which included a magnetically attached overlay - works perfectly. I have not found it anywhere that takes my insurance.

I've always desired a Japan-style single payer system, which only really works with their lax zoning system (anyone can buy up some land and drop a hospital / medical center on it) as well as more ethical medical schools (US schools artificially limit the the number of doctors and RNs to increase the values of their degrees and thus justify the high tuition). Japan's system works because private doctors, hospitals, etc are all competing for patients (aka that sweet government money) - someone sitting in a waiting room or waiting 3 months to see a specialist is not generating anyone money, so either the medical center will hire enough professionals so that no one is waiting, or a competitor will crop up across the road to meet the untapped demand.
My disagreement with things like Obamacare is that it's a half-measure distraction. Without single payer, the byzantine bureaucracies surrounding the insurance industry will continue to leech money from the system to no one's benefit. Without making it easier and more affordable for people to become doctors and set up practices, there will be long waits and poor service because there's no competition incentive for any particular practice to do better.

As for glasses I'd argue that if insurance didn't cover frames at all they wouldn't be priced much higher than the $10 it cost to make them. The labor to create and fit the lenses and provide the adjustment makes sense. But the frames themselves?
