I liked Almond Joy (the train) because of the way it looks. Then I started liking Almond Joy (the chocolate bar) because I finally decided to try it after hearing about the train, and decided I like it. But what has that gotta do with pneumatic doors and propulsion noise?

I like the thrystor-chopper noises of the new Onyx traction packages made by Alstom. I think GE makes a similar package that is used on the Bombardier MBTA 01800's.

"But what has that gotta do with pneumatic doors and propulsion noise?"

The Almond Joy cars opened their doors with a loud release of compressed air a split-second before the cars had completely stopped.

"You don't have any friends here" - that's what a high school alpha bitch would say to someone.

That quote right there, from this thread by the magical and mysterious Amanda, is a shining example of why she is a legend and my heroin I meant to write heroine. Last I heard Amanda was running up in the East Bronx after the OP was gunned down near the Brentwood sign years ago. The whole thing is a tragedy, it's just sad.

I must say Ron had an amazingly perverted way of looking at life.

At one point I made some subway-related observations. I posted these, and posted a theory/explanation that, to my mind, explained the observations.

He didn't believe my theory. OK. So did he suggest simply that my theory need not follow from the observations - there might be other explanations. Nope; he claimed I invented the observations to fit with the theory.

the real reason fewer people post here is because there is less drama and name-calling than ever before.

It's when you have a sociopath like Ron In Bayside posting that people come back for more.

Yeah. Said individual apparently defeated me in a thread about Boeing 757 weather radar systems. I thought I was defeating him like it was my job but he would not take no for an answer even though no was the answer. He used some sort of reverse logic and insisted he had the upper hand so I think I may have got defeated by the Honorable Dr. Ron Aryel who maintains a practice in Reno, Nevada. I still cannot understand what happened.

Between Facebook and Reddit pretty most niche forums have stopped gaining new members. Ones that have/had huge memberships are still plodding along, but people no longer search the Internet for discussion, but instead check if there's a subreddit or facebook group.

It looks like r/nycrail is what this place once was (with slightly better moderation).

True. Time flies. IIRC, SubChat has lasted almost 3 times as long as SubTalk (I think the latter started in 1999, but I could be mistaken). Obviously nycsubway.org itself has been around longer, I'm pretty sure it was already up and running when I first came online (summer of 1995).
