F and R car switches

Posted by alantrain on Wed May 15 04:49:09 2019

Riding the F Culver line in Brooklyn and the Broadway line at 34th St yesterday, I seem to have seen more R-160's on the R and more R-46's on the F. Are they trying to make south Brooklyn feel better?
By the way, the Culver line stations have some amazing art work.

From general observation, there are still R46's signed F laid up in CIY at night. I believe 10 F's are laid up at CIY each day.

Most people prefer the R-46 to the R-160.

With CBTC coming the Queens, both the F and R will have to be 100% NTTs either R-160s or R-179s.

Love hunting down 46 F trains and 160 R trains..

I remember when the R46s started on the F line back in the mid 1970s. They were a shock to the system - you could actually talk to the person next to you without having to shout and the a/c blew as cold as a freezer.

This has been asked or mentioned before, but I don't remember replies or explanations.
When a line begins CBTC operation, does this mean that the museum trains will no longer be able to operate on them?

Most likely unless they retain a few conventional automatic signals like they do on the 14 St and Flushing lines.
