Kinda feels like the Titanic should be both First and Last Runs :)Incidentally, there's a rail connection to the disaster: the Federal Express and Colonial were the premier Pullman trains between Boston and Washington in 1912 and involved a ferry across the Hudson (I believe from NYNH&H at Harlem River to PRR at Jersey City). After the Titantic sank, passengers were understandably wary of any form of maritime travel until safety was improved, so the trains were rerouted via the Poughkeepsie bridge, then L&HR to Belvidere, NJ, then PRR to Trenton. IIRC this routing remained in place until the Hell Gate Bridge opened. |
