A block away from the station at 7th and Hope streets, at least one of the officers fired multiple bullets at the man, Aguilar said. The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives believe the man’s shotgun — which is now in police custody, along with an unknown amount of ammunition — was loaded, Aguilar said. The officers were on assigned duty at the Metro station at the time of the shooting, officials said. Their names have not been released. The man was probably not homeless, Aguilar said. |

Carring an unloaded rifle is perfectly legal in the city. I have done it. It is not a conceeled weaponI do not think that it is advisable or even politically correct, but it can be done. Time is not long past when kids who drove to school out here had rifles in the back window of their pick-up trucks. I'e rather carry a long broad sword in a sheath. Of course if the ossiphers stopped me I would have to pull it out and show them that it was only a nail file. Oh Well ROAR |

That explains the announcement that 7th and Hope station entrance was closed "due to police activity".On a related note I met Supervisor Hilda Solis, a Metro board member, at a political fundraiser recently and complained about the derelicts taking up residence in the subway and that might explain patronage decline in the rail system.She listened and agreed with me. |

I was not using it with a racial tint. Perhaps that's how younger people use it, but as an old pht I'm not up on the subtleties of these things.I use it to mean a counterculture outlook which encourages conditions such as the LA tent cities. Those encampments likely result from several very different causes, but drugs and single parent families surely play a large role. So, in this case #Woke means, among other things, 'overthrow the Patriarchy, be a single mother!', 'F the straight life, be a druggie!' etc. It could also mean 'everything is racist, no law in the USA applies to me!'. The specifics are different, the general attitude is the same. Obviously I don't own the term, if you want to make it all about a race thing, you can. |

Sorry but I don't think that you're informed. All sanctuary cities do cooperate and turn people over to ICE. But they make sure that all the paperwork that's legally required is completed. And they typically only do the legal minimum.For example if someone is in a county jail that ICE thinks is here illegally, ICE may ask the jail to hold them longer until they can get the required paperwork to pick them up. A non-sanctuary city says "sure. Come when you're ready". A sanctuary city says "sorry, but that's illegal unless you have the paperwork" and lets the person go. |

One example: In Massachusetts, a number of people convicted in court who were to be collared by ICE immediately after were ushered out of alternate exits, away from the ICE agents. That's encouraged by the State House; were it not, there would be a number of newly unemployed judges, or even orange jumpsuits issued to said judges and whoever else facilitated. When you have a desired outcome in mind AND have the machinery of a State government, many ways can be found to skate up to, around, under and over Federal law. States have such abilities in part because the Federal government was not meant to be the sovereign power of the USA. It -was- intended to have authority over interstate matters, such as defense and immigration. |
