IRT Lo-V Run for Yankees Opener

Posted by Milantram on Sat Mar 23 09:47:11 2019

Last I heard was that the Lo-Vs are still at 239 St Yard. Are they still there, or have they been moved to another yard in preparation for the Yankees Opener special?

I plan to stake out a station for its deadhead move inbound. Hopefully, they're still at 239 St, which will give me a new opportunity for a new vantage poiint.

Yes, I know. It looks like it's going to be a sunny day.

No, the Yankees and the MTA have a contract to use the Lo-Vs only for the season opener.

As Yogi once said “Home openers are always exciting whether they’re at home or on the road."

I believe the subway car mechanics prep the train at 239th Yard, when the Yankees have playoff runs the Low V always travel to and from either 180th or 239th street yard to the 4 line to do its run.

The real mystery is will the TOMC run despite SMEE cars not being compatible with the current signal system on the 7 line.

It's been a feature since the Steinbrenner era, and it's kept foing by the family.

Then the Steinbrenner family will have to put CBTC capability into them one day.

That would be a sight!

No special train on the Flushing line will operate for the Mets home opener.

Now I'm curious if/where we will see the TOMC again. Of all the nostalgia trains, it has the largest fleet (14 viable cars?) while still being unusual/eye catching enough to attract a crowd. Not to mention, air conditioning.
