This looks devastating to the Baltimore Street Car Museum.

As an all volunteer organization, they operate on a shoe string budget, having to watch every dollar that comes in. They have track damage, and obviously overhead wire damage.....and who knows how many catenary poles have to be replaced.

The bill adds up quickly at an operation such as this.

Thanks Chuck. Electrical damage seems extensive, given all the transformers that have to be replaced.

I agree! The worst thing is the damage to the sub-station! :(

I guess we will see some CSX detours here in Blandon tomorrow!

Why wouldn't they? They're responsible for the damage.

They can stall things in court for a few years for basically nothing, that's why. And paying right now means setting a precedent they don't want to set.

This is at the bridge that goes over the Baltimore Streetcar Museum trolley tracks. No trolleys were on the line because the museum was closed. There is overhead wire damage and substation damage and possible trolley track damage for the falling cars. All that will have to be repaired before trolley operations can resume. The bridge for the CSX freight trains is car enough away from the trolley storage barns and the visitor center, so they are fine.

They have a standard operating rule at BSM, while CSX has cars on that bridge, trolleys are not allowed under or near it, because of falling loose objects. Now we have this derailment , it could have crushed the old trolley cars, and people on them.

Wouldn't CSX have insurance for things like this? It's their bridge and their train, so there is nobody else to try to blame.

But I still think they deserve to collect from CSX.

No, actually they would NOT have insurance for things like this. They are undoubtedly self-insured, just like NYC and MTA.

I would be very surprised if CSX does not pay for everything. The Baltimore Streetcar Museum is not a cash cow, or should even fathom thinking about paying for this disaster! There are BSM members down there today, helping out with the clean-up to their equipment. I hope everybody is keeping time sheets:)
