I think it would've angered more people if the system DIDN'T get disrupted to rescue the eagle...regardless of time and location.

In the end it didn't matter as the bird was put down because of the severity of the injury to its wing.

Eagles are rebounding pretty well. There was a funny (well, not for the poor bastard) story about a farmer who had started free range cage free farming. He had a pretty good system of rotating fields; something like having the cows and chickens swap which fields are theirs periodically, might have been some other critters in the rotation.

The funny bit of the story: since the chickens will, at various points in the year, be everywhere on the farm, there's no way to protect them from eagles without screwing over the other livestock that uses the farm. It started with a few eagles, but the sheer volume of helpless chickens had those eagles telling their friends about the new buffet in town. When the story came out there were over 70 eagles scarfing down chickens like it's Super Bowl Sunday. Hapless farmer can do nothing about it because they're protected species.
