PHOTOS: PATCO 50th anniversary

PATCO's revenue runs began on January 4, 1969, between Lindenwold and Camden City Hall. Service into Philadelphia began on February 15, 1969, so PATCO chose to celebrate Feb 15 as its 50th anniversary with a ceremony at Woodcrest, the only station with enough room to handle a small party. I left before the ceremony began.

Thanks, both for pix and clarification of opening of the extended line. I came down from NYC not on The day, but soon thereafter to check out the new service. Way cool.

I rode PATCO shortly in 1969 after it opened, it was cool.

They gave out reproductions of the first timetable with service to Philadelphia, dated Feb 15, 1969.

Between January and February of 1969, did the Bridge line subway cars still run between Philadelphia and Camden?

Patco used to have those stress relievers in the likeness of a Patco car. Not sure they still do. I don't see any in those fotos.

No. The bridge line stopped running while PATCO was being built. I had to ride buses from 8th and Race to Camden when I worked at Strawbridge & Clothier at 8th & Market and attended Rutgers-Camden.

How long was there no rail service in Philadelphia and the bridge while it was getting built?
