My guess would be that the City did not want to give it to the jointly operated IRT/BMT Flushing line for their use. Similar to the City not connecting the former NYW&B Dyre Ave to East 180th St IRT station until after unification. |

The NYW&B was purchase by the city of NY prior to unification and was originally intended to be the Bronx branch of the SAS replacing the originally proposed Morris Pk Ave subway. There were originally no plans at all to connect it to the IRT whether unification was achieved or not. Even after unification the Dyre Av Line was administratively an IND line even though the Hagstrom maps showed it in IRT blue. It was only after the 1950 SAS bond issue failed and immediate hopes for the SAS that the NYCTA decided to connect the Dyre Line to the IRT. |

Larry, This was the begining of the line all the way to lindenwold; service only as far as Broadway in Camden began much earlier with cars very similar to the Broad Street Subway cars. Articles on nycsubway.org suggest 1936 for thedelivery of the "Bridge Cars" |
