Maybe Third Ave. El in The Bronx, but it's impossible to determine the exact station.

The white announcements in windows bode no good. Quite a few railfans heard of abandonment of service, and they rushed out during the last week to take photos. I did not ride the 9th Avenue trains from Burnside Avenue, but my guess is Jerome Avenue from shortly before cessation of service in 1940. The apartment house says Bronx to me. Third Avenue or Freeman Street abandonment would have MUDC equipment.

The placement of the bathroom window towards the left might be a clue to match-up on Google Street View.

Good catch on those white announcements. And I agree the houses look Bronxian.

176 Street - Jerome Avenue is my best guess

I started to look at the 2nd Ave el when I found out that el car 1046 had been scrapped in 1946. A lot of former 2nd Ave-Queens gate cars were scrapped from 1943-1946. So, I looked up and down 2nd Ave, from south ferry to the QBB. Then I looked at photos of the Flushing Line on Youtube- and there it was!

Either those gate care windows are carrying the "Death Warrants" for the 2nd Ave line, north of 60th St (6/11/40), or the structure from the QBB to Chatham Square (6/13/42).

Winnah!! 52nd St Lincoln Ave Sta on the Flushing Line is correct. I was going to ask what gave it away but your following posts let me know.
That Apt house built after the El was built was literally feet from the station. I thought that might have been the giveaway. I don't know of any apt houses built so close to an El in the city other than there.

There are some apartment houses along the M Line around Forest and Seneca Aves. where the buildings are just as close. Been many years since I rode it regularly but I still remember. On a winter night could easily see into the apts as we rode past.

The apartment building looks like one on Roosevelt Avenue near the 52nd street station in Woodside. If that is the case, then the trains would be 2nd Avenue El cars, and the notice may be either the 1940 closure of the el above 60 Street, or the 1942 closure of the rest of the el.

From what a few people have told me, towards the end of the Freeman St service, a few trains of gate cars did show up as the Composites were starting to have a lower MDBF.
