Stations are opened at Bay Ridge Avenue, 77th Street and 86th Street. Watson Tuscarora Almanac – January 15, 1953 – The Book of Wrecks Washington, District of Columbia Pennsylvania Railroad Train No. 173 “The Federal Express”, headed up by GG-1 4861 fails to stop on Track 16 and crashes into the main waiting room at Union Station in Washington, DC. The weight of the engine is so great that it collapses into the floor below. Forty three people are injured. The GG-1 is cut into three pieces and sent to Altoona, Pennsylvania for rebuilding. The station was more or less replaced by the nearby Montclair State University station which has a large parking lot.
