I remember rt. 48 and 47 as being trackless trolley, going around the Bond Bread bakery as the terminal at Prospect Park.

I’m glad that they didn’t GOH those cars. The were Westinghouse and like the R-29s on the IRT, their controllers were pure murder to hold down. The later cars starting with the R-32s had controllers that were identical in appearance but were much more “motorman friendly” to hold down.

Unlike the R-26/28s, which converted to Catholicism during GOH.:)

What the R-30s received was pretty much a mini GOH. The brake systems weren’t changed as they were on the IRT cars and A/C wasn’t added because the MTA felt that it would make the cars too heavy (although I’m sure not as heavy was the D types).

The D's were heaver as a unit but IIRC the axle weight was distributed differently than the R-30s. Someone posted the tons per axle weight dist. awhile back. Based on that, the D's had less overall stress on elevated lines than an air conditioned R-30 would have.
