I guess it was a matter of time, and those R-179's car numbers look like they are in the 3150's now, like the former ones on the R-10's back then.

I only got a glimpse of it, but that last car appeared to be 3154, which was part of a train testing on the F line in the last video DJ Hammers posted.

Oh yeah.
Seen it already.

Kinda surprised they actually added those cars.
C wasnt suppose to get them in that configuration.
However, with the recent craziness regarding car assignments, nothing surprises me anymore.

Expect more of this strangeness in the months to come.

The 8 car trains are the priority to be delivered first, due to the TA wanting the Eastern Div to be 100 percent NTT before the shutdown.

Anyone know just how many four car sets, and five car set are on current order and optional orders?
Or is the R-211 order, the optional order?
Is the R-211 identical to the R-179 order?

I'm guessing some components will be on cab cars (A), while other components will be non-cab cars (B).
What will the set up be on five car sets the (C) cars?

R-211 is a separate order from R-179, IIRC. The R-211 will be a completely new design, while the R-179 is basically an R-160 with (I assume) a few minor changes)

Thank you!
Wasn't there a mechanical issue with that first 5 car set R-179 and that is why it was returned ??

Another quick question..
I have noticed many R-160's are having interactive information screens installed into the interior side digital route sign system.
The two times I rode an R-179, they did not have this feature factory installed. Wouldn't it make sense since the r-160's are being retrofitted?

They might not be. The 42s are supposed to be kept for the L shutdown, but it remains a mystery where they will be running when it starts.

If the plan was to scrap to 42s when the 179s came in, the remaining 42s would have been gone by now.

If the same type of car runs 2 different trains lengths, they don't like to have them on the same route. The T/O could forget how long his consist is.

No it's not. 16 cars have been added as a penalty for the order being so late.

The extra cars are non cab cars which would allow for 8 more 600' trains and 8 less 480' trains.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 10 car R179s are assigned to the C, so the 8 car R179 on that line is to allow the crews to familiarize themselves with new equipment.

I imagine there is a surplus of SMEE trains right now. Since there about 11 sets of R179's running (88 cars), and only several of 18 C trains are 600'.

They have learned lessons of the R30GOH/R143 - do not get ruthless and over-scrap.

I think they were short cars when 2nd ave opened, considering they had to do uncomfortable things with the southern division routes (occasional R68 Ws and Ns).

Anyone know if they've been doing a bit of roundabout:
1. R179s enter service on the J
2. J's R32s go to the A/C
3. A's R46s go to Jamaica Yard
4. Jamaica's R160's go to Coney Island yard

in order to make up the shortfall?

Eventually, everything out of JYd will have to be some sort of NTT once CBTC is implemented. That will probably mean transferring the R-160s off the N and replacing them with the displaced R-46s.
