Tue AM No North Brighton Service

Posted by Lou from Brooklyn on Tue Oct 16 08:10:28 2018

eems a train has laid down at Prospect Park. Crew is announcing the train is BIE with smoke condition.

All northbound service has been told to stop and stay at their next station.

CR is announcing to call 511 for more info or to file complaints. First time I have heard that one.

TO is a little more helpful telling us what bus you can take.

Now at 90 minute delay they are finally issuing block tickets or as website calls it courtesy pass.

yet another meltdown. It took 25 minutes between Newkirk and Prospect Park yesterday. They do work all weekend then mess up the morning commute.

Could they have run the trains to Prospect and reversed? The Shuttle platforms there are full-length, so they should have been able to use one of those to avoid fouling the s/b mainline. It would take a bit of setting up (like moving the back-up shuttle train out of the way), but it should work.

Then we couldn't have followed the T/O's direction to walk to Prospect Park from Church and take the Shuttle.
Anyway, with a smoke condition do you want 600ft packed trains unloading on the same platform or the 150ft train?

Good point re: the crowding.

As to the smoke condition - of course the potential danger has to be taken into account, but remember - it is an outdoor station, so unless there's heavy active smoke, minor smoking from the brakes shouldn't be a problem.

I don’t think the shuttle platforms are a full 600 feet.

I wouldn't swear to it, but I thought they are at Prospect Park.

They're the same size as the Q and B platforms. Full length platforms are necessary at PP because of the elevator access at Lincoln Rd.
