The IRT Corona (Flushing) Line is extended along Roosevelt Avenue from 103rd Street to 111th Street. A station is opened at 111th Street.

In Memory of our good friend Karl B

The last train ran today on Brooklyn’s oldest elevated line. It was a # 12 Lexington Avenue Local and the consist was six BU Gate Cars; 1349, 1398,1375,1379,1367 and 1395.

Erie Railroad

The Erie Railroad begins to shift its passenger operations to the Hoboken Terminal of the Lackawanna Railroad. Effective on this date all through (long distance) and non-rush hour suburban trains (except for the northern Branch) will no longer serve the Pavonia Avenue Terminal. Rush hour trains (except for the northern Branch) will follow on March 23, 1957.

Yep, Karl B was on that last Lex train. He always regretted not having a camera with him that day.

I wonder if it would have survived longer, had it run on its originally planned route- over Gates Ave.

1349 is living at bera.I as well as cupcakes have run it several times.

The IRT Corona (Flushing) Line is extended along Roosevelt Avenue from 103rd Street to 111th Street.

The station was known as 104th Street-Corona Plaza (Alburtis Ave) back then.

Must have been confusing for Erie passengers choosing which station to head to depending on wher time it was.

Thanks. I recently (last night, actually) watch Vincent Seyfried's video of the Lexington Ave line. While it certainly was a throwback, this is one of the few abandonments that doesn't bother me all that much- thee Myrtle was only a few blocks over. (Loss of the Myrtle, OTOH)...
