A third route between Manhattan and Wards Island will not begin May 15, 1937. Built by St. Louis Car in 1968 as PRR MP85E6 "Arrow I" electric MUs purchased by New Jersey Department of Transportation for high speed Northeast Corridor service between New York and Trenton, these were among the few all stainless cars built by St. Louis Car along with SEPTA's SIlverliner IIIs (unlike the R38-R44 series built with carbon-based alloy with external stainless sheetmetal). The Arrow I cars were mothballed in 1979-80 and converted to push-pull cabs and trailer coaches by Morrison Knudsen in 1987-1988.
