PATCO Classic Cars Farewell Fantrip

Posted by Jersey Mike on Wed Jun 6 07:35:34 2018

The last 4 cars will be making runs this Sunday. Schedule posted on the PATCO website. I'll be there for the first 3-4 runs starting at Lindenwold. Does anyone want to join me?

I thought PATCO was keeping its 1968 cars and giving them another overhaul, no?

What do the new PATCO cars look like?

They are rebuilding them, the last 4 unrebuilt cars will be running all day on Sunday. the new ones look mostly the same just with more LEDs and without the black racoon mask.

Does anyone know where those Chinese buses to Philly stop down in Manhattan? I was told near East Broadway but don't know the exact location to buy tickets / board a bus. Considering taking the earliest one on Sunday to catch this PATCO trip.

Bolt Bus is another considerable option however I understand round-trip on those Chinabuses were as cheap as $15.

I think there's a "terminal" (quotes because it's curbside, not a building like PABT) on the west side of Allen Street, near Division- right near the old Manhattan El powerhouse.

Are they still using the RT-5 brakes or were they upgraded to the current system which I believe is some version of RT-7? I also think that the older (pre 7000 series) WMATA cars still use an RT-5 brake system as do the oldest M/N and LIRR cars.

With what I have beeb reading about those Chinabuses, it seems like their operators took a crash course in bus operation.

Your cheap trip may not be the best choice. Crappy buses along with overworked and tired bus operators.

On east Broadway between pike and Rutgers, you will pass a few of the ticket offices for the various companies.

If you can find where they board in Midtown they will typically have either a person standing on the sidewalk selling tickets, or the driver will take cash.

I'm already booked for something else.

I could potentially make it down there in the morning and still make it back to New York in time, but that would be pretty exhausting (especially since it's already midnight and I'm not sanguine about my chances of sleeping well).

Anyone have any idea what the RFW situation will be like?

that works. lovely pix of the cars. Only ridden maybetwice, but I think ofPATCO as the last rapid transit line before the kleptocrats got their greedy hands in the deal. And,despite decent costs, ATC and electronic fare collection.

All PATCO cars are being rebuilt, both the original 1969 Budd cars and the 1980 Vickers-Canada cars.

Whether it's the 1969 or 1980 model cars, are all accounted for ?

Were any scrapped due to fires or collisions ?

All are accounted for. There are 121 cars in the fleet: 75 Budd and 46 Vickers. Twenty-five Budds were singles and all the rest were married pairs. 120 are being rebuilt as married pairs, leaving one single unrebuilt.

Correct. When rebuilds are completed, the entire fleet will be married pairs. With an odd number of cars, one is left over after the rebuild.
