However,the crosstown subway did have a intended connection to the 53rd st tunnel..and a direct connection to the South 4th st subway via Lafayette ave and Broadway. |

I know about the intended connection to the tunnel, but that was dropped before building and no provisions were made for its subsequent construction. The BMT Crosstown line would have come off the 60th Street Tunnel at Queensboro Plaza.The Lafayette subway was another example of the IND sending locals not to Manhattan. IINM eastern Lafayette was to have been the local of Myrtle/Central and the express only would have run through South 4th. Speaking of South 4th, as that tunnel would have connected to the 8th Avenue Line at Worth Street (along with the express tracks at 2nd/Houston), that would have diverted some 8th Avenue local traffic to South 4th, making a tunnel to Court even less likely. |
