End of an era.... R142A's are no more on the 6

Posted by r33/r36 mainline on Thu May 24 22:47:36 2018

The last set was transferred to the 4 line a couple days ago, the 4 got all the leftover 142A's that was on the 6 so the 6 is now 100% R62A sadly. I know 6 riders are gonna miss the A/C on those 142A's as they were usually ice cold and their HAVC is much more reliable than the ones on the 62A. Its not even memorial day yet and yet I already rode a 62A 6 with broken A/C today SMH.

RIP 142A 6 train 2000 - 2018.

Is the 6 still running R62A single units? The other day, I saw 1943, 1944, 1947, 1948, and 1949 on a 6 train— nonconsecutive numbers, and the cars still had proper couplers so I figured they weren't fully unitized yet.

I also saw 1960 and 1954 on a 6 train— those had been single units operating on the 7 recently. I didn't get a close look and I didn't catch the intermediate cars' numbers, but they were obviously nonconsecutive.

Nice video. So which T/Os usually get the job of transferring trains between routes like that? Work train guys? Or T/Os picking up some OT at the end of their shifts?

I wonder if and when 1951-55 and 1956-60 will be unitized. 1951, 1955 and 1956 are still on the shuttle.

I would say it depends on who is available. Since the R-62As and 142As are conventional equipment, then regular T/Os with either WAA in the work program or those who wish the oT would be able to do the work.
