Whether or not they had a RFW was contingent on how the trains were assembled in the yard. Both cars at the C/R position had to be transverse cabs but after that it could be anything. In the very beginning, on both the R-68s and 68As transverse cabs were kept on both operating ends so that a M/M/I could ride in the cab with the M/M for instructional purposes.

Yeah...I caught a few with rail fan windows on practically every line that used them back in the day...especially the D and Q.

It was a real treat to get one of those trains with the half cab facing out.

6239 is still thankfully with us. Apparently it wasn't severely damaged.

Not only that but with the cross seat at the front of the car, you could sit on it and still look through the RFW like you could on the BMT steels.

I remember sitting in one of those seats once, but since we were in the second or third car, there was nothing particular about it.

Not in the middle of the train but it was great on the operating end.
