Whale, da truff is that the US is always so far ahead that we are behind.

We had the best steel mills during WW-II but after we bombed the britches off of Germany and Japan, they rebuilded, while ours got older.

We were first in flight while our rails got rustier.

China OTOH... had little or no airpots, and builded railroads instead. Now them has the bes railroads and we are still stuck with aeroplanes.

Tain't FAIR I say.

Tear out tose airports and build more railroad trains.

WE ALREADY HAVE the rights of way, only problem is that we have expressways sitting on them. Well we can bulid HSR over under around and through the expressways and then could eliminate all air travel east of the Mississississippi.

Wᴇ ᴀʟʀᴇᴀᴅʏ ʜᴀᴠᴇ the rights of way; only problem is that we have expressways sitting on them

Maximum grade on a US interstate is 6 percent. Not conducive to having HSR alongside all of them.

Never mind a lot of private rights of way in the Midwest being almost dead straight themselves. DC needs to get out of the way and allow private investment, and also to not be against gas turbine HSR (that would be better for high-speed intercity what with being more efficient at higher speeds in the 190-200 mph range).

Whale is is not as bad as you think. With traction on every wheel they can make better grades, but you do not build HRS sets on the ground. All lines are built up, on risers of some sort, and so the grads and curves can be dealt with as needed.

IT is true that out west all section lines are a right of way, but most of these lines are required in the east.

China does not have the best railroads by a long shot. Not to mention, their HSTs are knockoffs of German and Japanese trains.

German and Japanese lines are growing old and long in the tooth.
So China's are not the best, but they sure are better than ours.

Yeah...NIMBYism is not a big influence on transportation policy in the Peoples’ Republic. Still, what they’ve willed and spent into being is impressive.

With traction on every wheel they can make better grades

Not even subway trains bother with grades that steep. And on ICE 3 trains, only eight trucks have traction.

Yes you do.

No they aren't.

Better than ours. And in a country of similar size.

Not to mention, their HSTs are knockoffs of German and Japanese trains.

"Knockoffs" how? So if you don't build a high speed network first, it doesn't count?

Oddly, Spain and France managed to build a network that spans most of their population without being authoritarian regimes...

That's never going to happen. I remember over ten years ago predictions of "we're going to have Chinese-built automobiles in the US"; didn't happen either.

They don't even have their own designs. Knockoff ICE 3 trains run on their systems. All their building is for the purpose of inflating their GDP numbers; it's a disaster.

Four cities run by hard-left politicians does not make a majority or even a plurality. Once those clunkers die a rapid death, they'll be back to Japanese or European vendors (heaven forefend we go back to domestic production again, yes?)

No. That’s the MTA way. Whether or not i’s legend, one of the stories I heard is that Il Duce would have soldiers ride the trains and if they were late, the crews would be shot.
