It happens sometimes, I've gotten them as well.Bravos were running local northbound this morning on the Brighton, the Q snowbirds were slow coming back from the city. |

Seems to be about as likely as on the N or W.Now, one real oddity I recently saw was an R46 Q! A couple of weeks ago I saw some southbound at Atlantic, two days in a row at 8:30 in the morning. |

While I assume that all new T/Os and C/Rs are qualified on all the equipment operating on their respective divisions, there was a time when that was not the case. In the 1990s, there was a “manned gap” train that was kept at the ready in C/Hall Yd to be used in either direction on any of the Bway services in the event of a train breakdown in either direction. One evening it happened that the gap train composed of R-46s was sent to Astoria in N service due to work program constraints, the crew that brought it in wasn’t able to take it back. According to a M/M I knew, the train lay in the pocket for about a half hour before a crew who was qualified was able to operate it. Pre Chrystie, I recall a M/M from IND Queens being sent to cover the board job at 168 on his RDO ( on call to cover last minute absences). The crew office called fro him to cover a job on the A out of 207 St but being from Queen which only had R-1/9s at the time, he wasn’t qualified on R-10s so he couldn’t work the job. |
