Re: Feds Sue MTA Over Failure to Install Elevator at Middletown Road Station (6)

I am in need of having both my knees replaced. It will be done after I lose weight. In the meantime, subeay stairs are rough for me.

But many people think it's so simple to put in elevators. Notice Marcy Ave. on the J/M/Z. They had to build 2 new structures just to put in the elevators and they had to make the mezzanine larger.
Take Rockaway Blvd. on the A line. Tiny mezzanne. You would have to enlarge that to bring an elevator up from the street, then 2 elevators from there to the platforms. You need the infastructure to support elevators.

The point is the added cost and funding needed.

Sorry I put on a repetitive post. I thought the earlier one was put on Facebook.

Good luck w/ the knees. As to complexity, yes, much engineering, jacked up electrical service, orifMTA hadfunctional neurons, solar panels on the station roof, lots of work. But as you understand in your body, ultimately a necessity.

No, it won’t. The world doesn’t revolve around your friends and relatives.

Do you deliberately misunderstand? or are you simply obtuse? The stats are that the US is entering an era of vast increse in the senior cohort of the population. That equals, weaker knees, dysfunctional hips, lower stamina. Conversely, we also are having an uptick in childbirths; that means more strollers.

If they're in such poor shape the 6 train is the least of their problems.

S-P doesn't appear to be categorically opposed to ADA improvements.

I have an extremely close relative who has great trouble with subway steps. But while I think that ADA accessibility is a very important goal, I don't think that making every single station accessible in my remaining lifetime is necessarily an appropriate goal.

So then fewer people will use the Newkirk Plaza station. It will not get ADA access.

I would think that such were an appropriate goal if it were practical, it just isn’t, though. There are numerous stations where the cost greatly outweighs the benefit.

If the Feds want to lean on the MTA enough, the agency will figure out a way to make it accessible.

Funny how some people get that with regard to welfare, food stamps, etc., but not with regard to corporate subsidies or grants to states and cities.
