The freighter WAUBESA outbound for Europe collides in heavy fog with the Staten Island ferryboats MAYOR GAYNOR and QUEENS. The ferryboats suffer some damage but the WAUBESA sinks.

This is the final day of steam operation. The last run is made by K1 Pacific 2530 operating on New Jersey and New York Railroad. (today’s Pascack Valley Line).
