Stations are opened at Dyckman Street, 215th Street and 221st Street. The temporary station at 221st will remain in service until January 14, 1907 when the line is extended to 225th Street. The stations at 168th Street and 181st Street will open on May 30, 1906. The station at 191st Street will open on January 14, 1911. The station at 207th Street will open on April 1, 1907. Should also add that March 12, 1888 was the date of the Great Blizzard, which immobilized all railroad and elevated train lines in New York and all over the Northeastern United States. |

The IND tried to get in on the act running a special non-stop from Hoyt Street to Roosevelt Avenue. It was discontinued after a few weeks due to low patronage. Larry, RedbirdR33 |

It was also responsible for the law requiring all electrical wiring in NYC to be placed underground including trolley wire which came later necessitating TARS and NY Railways having to install conduit for current collection. |

It was technically not part of the IND, but a separate, temporary entity, called the World's Fair Railroad.2. It took a LOT of wrangling between the city, the state and Robert Moses to get built - Moses and some upstate Republicans insisting it wasn't needed, but LaGuardia and downstate Democrats insisting it was. It finally got started, when it was agreed it would temporary, and that 10 cents would be charged - a nickel to leave the the station at the fair,and a dime to enter at the fair. |

Do you know anything else about it? It began running on April 22, 1964. Trains would leave from Hoyt-Schmerhorn Streets about every half-hour from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM. They ran non stop over the Crosstown and Queens Blvd. express track to Roosevelt Avenue where passengers would transfer to the Flushing Line. The trains would them dead head to Forest Hills and go into regular "GG" service. No return service was offered except for regular "GG" trains. The service was poorly advertised and not well patronized. It was discontinued on either May 6 or 7, 1964. Larry, RedbirdR33 I |

I guess that law was not extended to the other boroughs at consolidation in 1898. In fact, wasn't there trolley wire in upper Manhattan (like 207 St.)? |

I remember as a very young boy riding the 138 St Xtown trolley which ran across 135 St in Manhattan completely under wire. Some sources have indicated that the 145 St Xtown changed to conduit on the Manhattan side of the bridge but that was also because that route connected to and ran along the Bway/Kingsbridge car line which was all conduit. 155 St bustituted when I was too young to remember it so I don’t recall whether that retained the wire or changed to conduit. The cars coming across 181 St and 207 St were all under wire. |
