Amtrak #14

Because of trackwork north of Santa Barbara on the Coast Line, Amtrak #14 (Northbound LAX to SEA) with 40th anniversary #184 on point is forced to detour over Tehachapi Pass. This is not only rare mileage for this train, it's running nonstop from Los Angeles to Sacramento, CA! Filmed 2/7/12 at Woodford, Bealville and Caliente. Next on 2/15/12 unit #4 on point at Sand Cut, just outside of Bakersfield, CA. is the closing shot. Filmed and edited by John Lytle

Doesn’t Amtrak couple their engines back to back like the old A units?

I am somewhat confused by the description. My memory is that when I rode one of these detours,we turned "west" over the ex WP through Altamount and Niles Canyon as I am sure I detrained in Oakland where I live. Perhaps it was a different detour. As to non-stop in the valley, yes for passengers, but crew changes at Mojave
