Please reset/fix this site.

Site running slow.

Getting errors with no message.

Well, I'm getting processing errors, but no slow running. It shuts down very rapidly and comes back up again just as rapidly.

Bill, if you post and get an error message, just hit the "back" button. It will reappear and you can try to post again.

It seems to be fixed now (within the last hour). But why doesn't Larry repack the thing on a regular schedule? If he did it monthly, the problem wouldn't develop. Do it at the start of each month, or the end of each month. Or pick any date, 1 to 28 (so future Februaries won't be left out), but do it.

But when the system is having problems, reloading may fail. "Back" will call up the copy from your browser's cache.

Ach.... Don't listen to them, Larry, It is a great site, you run it without ads, and it has gotta cost.

********************
Compact the database... Maybe what he needs are more hard drives, are you going to buy them for him?

Maybe he needs a day off to wrok on this. You going to pay him for that.

I use the site with thanks, and worry not about occasional hangups. After all this is not a business site where the income stream hangs on it working correctly.

I got some businesses that I deal with that can't run a proper site.

He's under no obligation to do anything. It's a hobby site.
We are lucky to even have it at all.
Thanks are in order, not complaining.

True. The subtalk + subchat boards are over 20 years old now IIRC. I remember accessing subtalk at work before I had a home computer, so that was in 1995 or 1996.

I can deal with an occasional problem too. Larry certainly doesn't owe us anything; it is a hobby and a courtesy as far as I can tell. And no ads-- that makes it priceless!

There are small, inoffensive ads and affiliate links in flat view. They probably aren't enough to pay for a footlong sub each month.

Without question, Larry deserves props for keeping this forum alive, but I wish some of the spirit that propelled him to create SubChat was still around. The ability to search the full text of all posts is sorely needed. The vast majority aren't in Google's and Bing's indexes.

True.

He's doing this out of love for the hobby, just like we contribute for the same reasons.

No worries...I understand a glitch or so happens every now and then.
He's kind enough to never ask for donations even though he could.

It's all good.

I used to love the search features that were on the SubTalk version of this community. But was just a "nice have", we surely have done fine all these years, and am very greatful it's here, as this community survived because of the format it is in, while so many other attempted replacements of SubTalk failed.
